System

The smart home system we have designed for our apartments is an easy to use and easy to expand smart home solution that makes our homes more convenient and energy efficient at the same time. The system is an open one, the elements can be replaced and the system expanded with other smart devices as needed thanks to Z-Wave and Z-Wave plus, the most popular communications standards already used by thousands of smart home products and supported by most of the manufacturers. Metrodom’s smart home system consists of the following units.

Touchscreen central unit
The heart of the system is a touchscreen, which also contains the control unit itself. The various different sensors, switches and other elements are connected to it. The control unit, to which the different smart-home elements are connected, and through which the system is connected to the Internet, controls the smart-home system. Without being connected to the Internet permanently, the system works only with largely limited functionality, so if you would like to use it, we definitely recommend that you have an Internet service subscription. The unit is mounted on the living room or ante-room wall, basic functionality can be freely controlled with the touchscreen, you can toggle between the different modes (day, night, out of the house, vacation) using the touchscreen. Should you wish so, you can raise or lower the temperature, raise or lower all the window blinds in the apartment with a single touch. Incoming calls from the video intercom system can be controlled and ambient temperature and relative humidity read on the screen too.

Smart thermostat
All radiators (every room in buildings equipped with the Dual Eco Plus heating/cooling system) are equipped with smart thermostats. Using the buttons on the thermostats you can easily raise or lower the temperature, which can be checked on the digital display. The same can be done remotely, using a mobile phone or a computer. Normally however, the smart home system automatically controls heating, individually in each room if so required, according to needs and habits of the residents. Batteries in the thermostats should be replaced every 1-2 years depending on the intensity of use. Low battery charge can be seen on both the display of the thermostat and via the mobile phone application.

Smart lighting
Instead of traditional switches, an elegant, touch-control glass plate is employed to turn the lights on and off. Depending on the on/off status of the lights, the little ring showing the location of the switch is illuminated in different colors, so that the switch can found easily even in the dark. The smart home system is aware of the on/off status of a certain lamp and is capable of controlling lighting by instructions given remotely. The smart home system is always aware whether a lamp is switched on and can control lighting by remotely conveyed instructions. The switches of course can also be operated manually.

Open/close sensors
The system detects the open/close status of each of the windows, balcony doors and the entrance door, you can also easily check the status remotely. This data is then used by the smart home system to decide when to turn radiators on and off, the system detects when you come home (and subsequently switches modes), and additional applications can also be added to it. Batteries in the open/close sensors contain a built-in (non-replaceable) battery, which serves the entire 10-year lifespan of the sensor, so the devices are to be replaced every ten years.

Intercom system
Incoming calls are received on the control panel with the help of the smart-home system. Not only audio is transmitted but the image of the person standing in front of the entrance door is also fed to the screen. Evidently, besides receiving the calls, the door is also opened, and the visitor admitted using the button on the control panel.

Smart blinds
Depending on the configuration, smart blinds or smart blind preparations (concealed case, electric outlet) may be part of the system. For detailed information on the configuration of the apartment of your choice, please consult the description. Smart blinds may be ordered in each of our buildings. Shading of the apartment is also a function that can be automated and adjusted to the needs of the residents relatively easily. The season of the year, time of the day, sunlight (illumination), weather forecast (i.e. a thunderstorm is expected) or whether someone is in the apartment are all pieces of information helping the operation of smart blinds.
