smarthome and app
Your smart home allows you to easily switch, control, and adjust heating, cooling, shutters, and lighting for maximum convenience. You can automate these systems to suit your preferences and even integrate various smart devices. This not only enhances comfort but also helps you save energy and reduce costs through efficient use. To learn more about the capabilities of the Metrodom smart home, watch the video below.
Although the term 'smart home' is widely used, it can be challenging to define precisely. At Metrodom, a smart home is a standard feature in every residence, comprised of interconnected smart devices. These include smart shutters, smart switches, the so called scene switch, the thermostats, the motion sensor, the video intercom, and the central control unit that integrates all components. To manage your smart home, you'll need the Metrodom app, which you can download to your phone to access various functions, including video intercom calls. For more details on the design, functionality, and development of Metrodom’s smart home, download the user guide or listen to this episode of the Smart Home Lab podcast featuring our IT Director.
You are not required to use the smart features. Switches, thermostats, shutters, and the video intercom can all function like their conventional counterparts, allowing you to operate everything manually if preferred.
Most of our buildings feature model homes equipped with our smart home system, allowing you to see the devices, thermostats, and switches firsthand and try out the key functions with guidance from our property consultants.
Basic functions can be accessed through the switches and thermostat. However, for added convenience, remote control, and automation features, you’ll need to download the Metrodom app from the App Store or Google Play.
To make it easier to use the system, you can also access the most commonly used automatic programs with a so-called scene switch. If you like, you can also add a smart speaker to the system, so you can even give verbal instructions to your smart home. To learn more about how to use our smart homes, download the user guide or watch this video.
With the Metrodom powered by UpHome app, you can effortlessly control your smart home—adjusting lights, shutters, and temperature—even remotely from anywhere in the world. The app also allows you to receive video intercom calls on your phone and unlock the door for visitors. Additionally, you can use the app to reserve communal areas within the complex, such as the sauna, fitness room, or co-working office. The app also serves as a digital key, granting you access to these spaces, with the building recognizing you as an authorized user. The Metrodom app is continually enhanced with new features, which will be automatically updated on your phone.
Background support for our smart home systems is provided by SmartBuild Ltd. Their services are complimentary for the first year, after which they are available for a fee or by subscription. For assistance with setup, adding new devices, creating new scenes or programs, adjusting the brightness of smart switch backlighting, or addressing any malfunctions or replacement needs for your smart devices, please contact SmartBuild Ltd.

Our smart home system is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, requiring no programming knowledge—similar to a smartphone. If you wish to adjust default settings or create a new scene, the easiest approach is to contact SmartBuild Ltd. However, if you're interested in exploring the full capabilities of the system and have the technical expertise, you can request admin access from SmartBuild Ltd. This grants you complete control over the system, but please note that with this transfer of admin rights, SmartBuild Ltd. will no longer have direct access to provide backup support or remote assistance. As a result, support may take longer to access and will incur an additional fee.
At the core of the Metrodom smart home system is the control unit located in the hallway’s installation box. This compact device connects to all smart devices, communicates with the Metrodom app, and remains continuously online. It connects to the internet via the building's telecom network, allowing you to access your smart home from your phone anytime, without requiring a separate internet subscription. For homes delivered after 2023, the control unit and complete smart home system are provided by the Hungarian company, Chameleon.
The motorized aluminum roller shutter is a standard feature in every home, enhanced by the smart shutter switch for greater functionality than traditional shutters. You can operate it manually, use the Metrodom app as a remote control, or create custom scenes. With one press, you can raise or lower all blinds when leaving or arriving, or activate Away mode to let the smart home system fully automate shutter operation. In winter, the system raises the blinds to let in sunlight for warmth, and in summer, it lowers them to keep your home cool by providing shade.
The lighting and shutter switches in our homes are not only smart but also feature a unique, clean design with a sleek, touch-sensitive glass panel that’s easy to clean. These switches ensure that lights and shutters respond seamlessly to commands from your phone or the smart home’s automated settings. You can also create scenes by linking switches with other smart devices, such as dimming the lights and lowering the shutters when the TV turns on. Additionally, the switches offer adjustable light intensity and color, allowing them to serve as night lights in each room.
The scene switch is a dedicated smart switch located in the hallway, featuring four pictogram-based scene controls rather than the typical one or two switches. While other smart switches control individual devices (such as shutters or lights), the scene switch is designed to activate scenes, coordinating multiple devices simultaneously or triggering automated functions. The four pre-programmed scenes include:
- All lights off – turns off all lights that are left on
- All shutters down – lowers all shutters, either fully or partially, adjustable separately for each shutter
- All shutters up
- Activate Away mode
The Away mode turns off any remaining lights and sets the blinds to automatic mode, allowing the shutters to adjust based on the season and sunlight position. For more details, refer to the smart shutters section.
A scene is a small program that activates when a single switch is pressed or when a smart device or sensor is triggered. A simple scene might involve controlling multiple lights or shutters with one switch. Scenes can also link multiple smart devices—for example, turning on the coffee machine when the bedroom shutters are raised in the morning. You can create your own custom scenes, limited only by the devices you connect and your creativity. Four of the most useful scenes are pre-programmed into the scene switch located in the hallway; you can read more about them here.
The simplest way to manage your home’s climate is with thermostats in each room, including the bathrooms. Each thermostat displays the current room temperature, allowing you to easily adjust it up or down. The thermostats also show relative humidity, helping you maintain the ideal range of 40-60%. Room temperatures are just as easy to monitor and adjust remotely via the Metrodom app, where you can also activate modes to lower the temperature in winter or raise it in summer during extended absences, conserving energy and reducing costs by avoiding unnecessary heating or cooling.
In our apartments you will also find a motion detector in the hallway. By default, its role is to detect the returning occupants in case of a longer or shorter absence, turn on the light in the hallway, raise the shutters if necessary. You can also use the motion detector to activate or deactivate other scenes on demand, or even send an alert to your phone if motion is detected during your absence. Currently, it's the only smart device in our system that requires regular maintenance, or more specifically battery replacement.
Metrodom's smart home system supports integration with a wide range of smart devices, thanks to the open, widely used Z-Wave and ZigBee communication protocols. However, adding a new device requires admin access, which is managed by SmartBuild Ltd., the backend support provider. Please contact them to add new devices to your smart home. If you prefer to manage and configure the system yourself, you may request admin access. For more information, see here.
Starting in 2024, the smart home system in our residences is provided by Hungarian company Chameleon Ltd., which developed the control unit and the smart home software, including the Metrodom app on your phone. The entire system—including hardware integration, software configuration, and pre-programmed scenes—is a collaborative effort between Chameleon and Metrodom, resulting in a sophisticated, unique system available exclusively in Metrodom homes with this level of capability.
