Lili Pataki in da house - The living room

2024. December 05. Thursday

The living room is the room that most defines a home. It's where we spend most of our time, where we live, where we snuggle up on long winter evenings, where we welcome guests, where family get-togethers take place and where many iconic sitcoms are set - just think of Friends!

The living room's furnishings and comfort are what characterize its owners the most - Show me your living room and I'll tell you who you are!

Interior designer Lili Pataki, commissioned by Metrodom, designed a living room that we would immediately accept as part of our own home. The subtle, harmonious and warm shades and the softly rounded shapes almost enfold the space, creating an intimate atmosphere with their friendly undulation. A soft harmony is felt throughout the room, creating a sense of calm and comfort. If you think about it, this coziness and warmth is exactly what you want from your living room - a place where you can feel really at home.
As a starting point for the living room, a spacious corner sofa in off-white shades has been placed under the window, slightly away from the terrace door, inviting the occupants in its comfort and elegant simplicity. Practically positioned, it does not impede the use of the space, yet it is central to the daily life of the owners, who will spend most of their time here. Yet, surprisingly, the sofa is not the focal point of the room: that role is fulfilled by the striking coffee table placed in front of it. Its robust shapes and defined edges contrast sharply with the softer lines and subtle colors of the other pieces of furniture in the living room. The sofa cushions, as well as providing comfort, also accentuate this contrast, bringing excitement to the space with their colorful and textured look.
The living room is made even more special by a stunning armchair of unusual shape and imposing size, positioned to make it ideal for long, intimate conversations. The armchair is the perfect complement to the comfortable seating of the sofa, blending harmoniously into the space. Across from the sofa, the focus is on the stylishly designed media wall, which with its rounded edges exudes a modern yet welcoming feel. The color scheme echoes the natural oak already seen in the kitchen and hallway, creating a harmonious blend between the different rooms of the home. The living room is further enhanced by the realistic electric fireplace, which not only provides warmth and coziness, but is also a great choice for families with small children, as it is a safe and practical solution.
Lili has placed the bookshelf on the side of the media wall facing the window, so it gets plenty of light. She also designed two cupboards underneath, as storage space is always welcome. This lower furniture extends all the way to the other side of the media wall, where it forms a bench. This is also a great place to snuggle in to read and provides extra seating for guests.
The wheel-shaped ceiling light, suspended on three cords, further enhances the softness that runs throughout the room, and its colors echo the armchair's upholstery.
The glass door and window are covered only by a blackout curtain, but the Roman blind on the sash opposite the entrance adds a playful, exciting touch.
Two more things are needed to make a living room warm and cozy: a plant, which Lili has placed in front of the window on a column-like stand; and the rug, which, with its neutral color and soft fluff, almost invites you to lie down on it in front of the fireplace.
