Smarthome

Metrodom has always taken care to ensure that its buildings and flats not only comply with the effective regulations, but that they incorporate genuinely high-quality products, and that we use modern, future-proof technical solutions so that our homes remain state-of-the-art for years and decades to come. This is why it was a logical decision for us, in all of our projects launched from 2016 onwards (Babér street 13-15., City Home from Phase H, Berettyó street 2-8., Lőportár street 9., Metrodom Panoráma, Metrodom Park) to install smart home systems in our flats.

Many of you have probably heard the expression “smart home” by now, and from April onwards our customers will also be able to experience for themselves, in our show home, what a truly smart home is really like. One of the main functions of smart homes is for the networked machines and equipment to inform us of their own status and conditions in the flat, enabling us to access this data from the other side of the world, if needs be. This makes it possible to know if there is any movement in the flat, what the lighting conditions are inside, to be alerted if there’s a fire, to check the temperature or see which machines are running and how much energy they are using, whether the balcony door or a window is open, and so on. The other main function is control and intervention. We can set the temperature (radiators, air conditioning), switch power points on and off, raise or lower the blinds, etc. In addition to simple switching, we can also set up complex instructions and programs depending on the signals from sensors or the time of day; for example, we could program the system so that at 06:30 in the morning the blinds are raised and the bathroom temperature is turned up to 25 degrees from of the usual 21.

The system is managed from a standard computer, smart phone or tablet, and the alerts and notifications can even be sent to your smart watch. The basic functions can naturally also be operated manually, so it’s not absolutely necessary to get out your mobile phone every time you want to turn up the temperature or lower the blinds. The main functions (heating, blinds, home and outside of the home programs) can also be operated by a visually appealing glass panel touchscreen, designed specifically for Metrodom. The system can be expanded as desired virtually without limitation. Today a vast range of smart devices is available. We however also offer special packages (security, multi-media or cooling program) our customers can order from us so that installation and configuration will not have to be done later.

The following system is installed in Metrodom flats. (In certain buildings additional components may be added; for more information, see the technical descriptions.)


Central Unit (Home Center Lite)

This is the “nerve centre” of the smart home system, and ensures communication between the individual devices and our mobile phone (tablet, computer). The connection with the smart devices is created with the help of a short-range wireless network, which uses the Z-wave standard. For remote control an internet connection, a personal computer, or a tablet or smart phone running Android or IOS is necessary.


Motion Sensor

The primary role of this little 3cm devices is to detect movement, but additionally it also measures light levels. The sensor is mounted in the ante-room and, if in default settings, also controls ante-room lighting and stays on as long as some is in the ante-room or turns it off manually. The sensor can be ordered for other rooms as well (in our show flat besides lighting, it also controls the window blinds) for a surcharge. 

Thermostats

We fit all radiators in the flat with a smart thermostat. These clearly display the local temperature, and the buttons can be used to set the desired temperature precisely. Of course, the system can do much more than this. Effectively, it is possible to set a different temperature for each room, for different times of day, or based on other parameters (movement, light). This means the bathroom will always be nice and warm when you would like a bath, and on the way home from your skiing holiday you can turn on the heating in the flat while you are still crossing the border.

Control panel

Metrodom’s control panel is superior to what other smart home systems offer, beyond simple functionality, in its design and visual appearance. The touch sensitive glass panel is clean, the digital screen besides the “buttons” displays the actual temperature. If you do not want to remotely control each thermostat separately or remotely set the heating temperature from your smartphone, you can simply raise or lower the temperature in the whole flat by a quick tap on the panel. Similarly, all window blinds can be controlled at the same time (blind sheets and the motor driving it are not part of the basic package). Using the panel, the home program can be (de)activated, which controls heating and lighting activates the alarm system and the selected sensors. Several other functions can be added, like turning off certain smart sockets when no one is home. Finally, a separate function button is placed on the panel, which can be programmed as desired to perform other functions.

Smart lighting

In a Metrodom flat lighting is fully integrated in the smart home system. The wall switches may look ordinary and be used as ordinary switches, they also offer special functions. Lighting in the ante-room is connected to the motion sensor, when we are in the ante-room the lights are on, and they go off when we leave. When leaving home, we can switch off all of the lights in the flat by a single tap on the control panel. The system can be programmed in many different ways, we may want to have the system turn on the lights in the living room at dusk, if we are at home, but switch them off when we turn on the TV.

Window open sensor

Dedicated sensors monitor the open/close status of each of the windows and the terrace door. You will not have to ponder ever again if you left a window open. These sensors however, offer more. As the heating system monitors the position of the windows, instead of raising the temperature to compensate the heat loss, it turns off the thermostats on the radiators near the window, when we open the windows to air the flat. The air conditioning system can be programmed the same way. Using these fine adjustments, we can save a surprisingly large amount of money and energy.
